1.2.1. Dataset Navigation

The screenshot shown below is a typical view of what the detailed data set description pages look like. This particular view can be obtained by selecting the 'Tobacco800' dataset through the 'Browse Data' link in the left navigation panel, by selecting its 'a' subset, and scrolling to the bottom. It can also be accessed directly at this URL.

The displayed navigation panel is composed of different parts, some of which are shared with all detailed description pages (e.g. for document page images or page elements), others are specific to datasets.

General Information and Features

The upper part of the navigation window shows the dataset name, the user who submitted it (if known) and the overall rating this dataset has received from users.

The lower part of the window (not shown in the screenshot) displays all registered individual comments or ratings.

General Interaction

General interaction with the currently selected item goes through the icons of the available toolbar. According to the context, the toolbar looks like this (individual icons can be deactivated):

It offers the following features:

  • Download selected data
  • Copy selected data to personal storage ('My Uploads')

Specific Dataset Navigation and Interaction

The rest of the window consists of a 'regular' hierarchy navigator, with on the left side, the dataset hierarchy, containing sub-datasets and items. The right part of the window shows details of the selected data item, displaying a thumbnail if available, as well as general information regarding the selected item.

Parts of the displayed information is clickable, especially the thumbnail, which redirects to the 'Detailed Document Interaction' page.

The bottom of the viewing area has a handle allowing it to be enlarged if not all information can be displayed.
